Is Shameless‘ Fiona Gallagher angling to be the next Bachelorette?
The Showtime dramedy has tapped Dermot Mulroney for a major Season 5 arc as a potential suitor for Emmy Rossum’s character, according to the network.
Mulroney, who was last seen on NBC’s ill-fated Crisis, will recur as “ex-bad boy and recovering addict” Sean Pierce, Fiona’s manager at Patsy’s Pies — where she began working in the Season 4 finale. Throughout the season-long arc, Sean will take an interest in Fiona — but he’ll have to compete with at least two other interested parties, played by Aussie actor Axle Whitehead and Tony winner Steve Kazee.
Although Mulroney will play an entirely new character, his casting essentially replaces Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Charlie Peters, who appeared in a similar capacity at the end of Season 4.
In addition to Crisis, Mulroney’s recent TV credits include recurring roles on New Girland Enlightened.
Shameless is slated to return in early 2015.
Filmmaker Leigh Whannell announced Wednesday on Twitter that Dermot Mulroney will star in Insidious: Chapter 3. Whannell will direct and write the third installment of the horror franchise.
The first film followed Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Renai Lambert (Rose Byrne) as they confronted the demons that possessed their son, Dalton (Ty Simpkins). The sequel told the story of the haunted Lambert family as they attempted to uncover the childhood secret that left them connected to the spirit world. The plot of the third film is unknown at this time, but given its predecessors, Mulroney — who was recently seen in August Osage County and New Girl — is in for something quite different from his previous work.
Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions, which produced the first two installments in the series, will produce the third film along with Oren Peli and James Wan. Steven Schneider, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Peter Schlessel, Lia Buman, and Entertainment One’s Xavier Marchand are executive producing.
Focus Features acquired the rights to release Insidious: Chapter 3 from Film District; the film is expected to hit, and terrify, U.S. theaters April 3, 2015. eOne will distribute the picture in Canada, U.K. and Spain. Sony will distribute the picture in the rest of the world. Principal photography of the film is scheduled to begin July 7.
